Mia, the AI cat robot, is getting a two-way conversation mode in late July 2026.
Right now, Mia speaks to you — playing dialect phrases, weather updates, and calendar reminders on a schedule. With the two-way conversation mode, you'll be able to speak back and have Mia respond in real time.
This article covers everything announced so far: what you'll need, how it will work, and how it compares to the standard model.

What you'll need to use two-way conversation (planned)
Two-way conversation will not be available on all Mia units. Two things will be required.
1. The two-way model (new hardware)
The two-way conversation feature is planned exclusively for a new hardware model — the Mia Two-Way Model.
The current standard model plays pre-recorded dialect phrases and family voice messages. It does not have the microphone or audio processing hardware needed for real-time conversation. Upgrading to the two-way model will be required to use this feature.
2. A Premium subscription (/month)
Owning the two-way model alone won't be enough. A $2/month Premium subscription will also be required.
The conversation processing happens in the cloud: your voice is sent to a server, an AI generates a response, and Mia speaks it back. The Premium subscription covers that processing. Usage will be capped at 5 hours per month.
How it will work (planned)
Turning on conversation mode in the app
Once you have both the two-way model and an active Premium subscription, you'll turn on conversation mode from the home screen of the Mia app.
Starting a conversation: tap Mia's head
Step 1 — Tap Mia's head to begin
One tap on Mia's head starts a conversation session. Mia will greet you to signal the session has started.
Step 2 — Talk to Mia
After the greeting, say whatever you'd like. Mia will recognize your voice, generate a response with AI, and speak it back. Questions, small talk, things that happened today — no particular format is required.
Step 3 — Tap again to end
Tap Mia's head a second time to close the session. Mia will say goodbye and the conversation will end.
Auto-timeout after 3 minutes of silence
If 3 minutes pass without anyone speaking, the session will end automatically. No action needed — it just closes on its own.
Turning off conversation mode returns Mia to normal
Switch conversation mode off in the app and Mia goes back to standard behavior: tapping her head plays the pre-set dialect phrases as usual. You'll be able to use conversation mode when you want it, and stick with standard mode the rest of the time.

The standard model's existing features carry over to the two-way model. The two-way model adds the ability to actually respond to what you say.
